Nickle Metal Hydride
Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) Batteries offer many of the advantages of Ni-Cad batteries like low cost and a variety of sizes without the disadvantages of environmental concerns. Many Ni-Cad battery applications have transitioned over to NiMH and seen the benefit of capacity increased to almost double.
NiMH cells have lower cycle life and require a more sophisticated charge control than Ni-Cads. They are, however, ideally suited for many hand-held and portable applications.
Recently NiMH cells have replaced Ni-Cads in power tool and other high current discharge applications as the NiMH technology improves in this area.
